
Marcia Eckerd, PhD
Marcia Eckerd, PhD, is a licensed psychologist for 35 years. She provides therapy and consultations with parents and schools for students with autism spectrum disorders, NVLD, ADHD and executive function issues. She has a specialty in diagnosing and working with individuals with spectrum challenges and NVLD, such as social skills, anxiety, inflexibility and depression. She has written and lectured about the challenges of identifying girls and women on the spectrum who have not been previously diagnosed or understood.
Dr. Eckerd is a member of the CT ASD Advisory Council and the Clinical Advisory Group of the Asperger’s Autism Network, a national resource for autism services and education. She is on the professional advisory board of Smart Kids with LD and the Board of Directors of NeuroClastic, a nonprofit that provides education and resources for autistic individuals and families. She’s on the community medical staff at Norwalk Hospital, helped establish the Yale-Norwalk Hospital collaboration Pediatric Department and Therapy Center, and was Director of Clinical Programs for the New Learning Therapy Center.
Dr. Eckerd is the author of multiple articles on autism for the Journal of Health Services Psychology (JHSP) and on both autism and NLD for Autism Spectrum News. Her blog “Everyday Neurodiversity” is on Psychology Today. Her recent presentations include workshops on autism for the “Learning and the Brain” conference co-sponsored by the Departments of Education of MIT and Harvard, Johns Hopkins and Tufts Universities in 2020, the Special Kids International Summit co-sponsored by UNESCO in 2019 and the Star Institute International Autism Summit in 2021.
Dr. Eckerd, a graduate of Yale University, earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the City University of New York, completed her internship and fellowship at NY Hospital-Cornell Medical Center (now Presbyterian Hospital), and trained with the Benson-Henry Institute of Mass General Hospital/Harvard Medical School to teach scientifically-proven stress reduction techniques.
